   Hi Melody,

   I’m privileged to have read The Agency from cover to cover. I suppose many have confirmed how brilliant you are. I’m really breathless at your talent, skill and breadth of knowledge, especially in someone so young. Your characters are strong, your dialogue is natural, your wit is wonderful, your plot is economical and air tight. Your book is professional and, yes, commercial. It feels like a movie.

   Ordinarily I’m not drawn to novels or movies about the movie industry. But in this work you subsumed the movie industry as a form of propaganda, subtle as your version is (distraction), that is, under the control of the CIA, and possibly untoward political influences. It also raises the issue of scandals which prempt serious issues in the media. Your account of Amanda’s CIA experience seems very real, and cold. I’m reminded of the Valery Plame affair, Jody Foster in Silence of the Lambs, The Spy Who Came in From the Cold, the Graham Green, Lacarre novels etc.

   I think a costume designer would have a wonderful time in organizing a wardrobe for your characters. I have a fantasy of an illustrated appendix giving examples of the wardrobe in your novel.
